The resurrection of Jesus Christ is connected to the sacrament of confession. When we go to Confession, we cooperate with Christ. Why? Because Christ was raised from the dead so that we might be saved. We are saved through our faith in him, and through our obedience to him. And today, we hear him give his apostles the authority to forgive sins. God says, I give my power to forgive sins to these apostles. That is the way I want to forgive your sins. And what is our response to this? All too often we respond with looking for an easier way. God, your way is too difficult, lets do it my way instead. Let’s cut out the middleman and just go straight to you. The only problem is that when we cut out the middleman, we cut out Jesus’s plan from the picture.

Our Lord told Sister Faustina, “I do not want to punish mankind, but I desire to heal it, pressing it to my Merciful Heart.” Our Lord spoke to Sister Faustina many times, urging her to tell other people about his mercy, and about this great feast which we celebrate today. He promised that the soul who goes to Confession and receives Holy Communion on this great feast will obtain complete forgiveness of sins and punishment.

Baseball is one of my favorite sports. It has a good structure, fair rules, and the harder you hit the ball, the less you have to run. What makes baseball so fun is the rules. If someone broke the rules while playing, the game wouldn’t be fun anymore. That used to happen when I would play with my friends. Sometimes someone wouldn’t like how the game was going, and they would change the game so that they could score more points. Well, that made us not want to play anymore. This is why the rules of the Church are so important. It’s not that it wouldn’t be fair if someone didn’t follow the rules, but rather it would be ineffective.

We cannot make up a new rule and force God to allow it. The heart of our salvation comes from faith in Christ and obedience to his will. I want each person here in this Church to enter the gates of heaven. And if fear is keeping you from confession, fight through it. If shame holds you back, listen to Christ. If you cannot come to confession with me, I will call and set up and appointment with another priest. This is the time of mercy. Let us not put off the will of God any longer, but turn back to him so that we may be saved.

La resurrección de Jesucristo está relacionada con el sacramento de la confesión. Cuando vamos a confesarse, cooperamos con Cristo. ¿Por qué? Porque Cristo resucitó de entre los muertos para que pudiéramos salvarnos. Nos salvamos por nuestra fe en Él y por nuestra obediencia a Él. Y hoy, le oímos dar a sus apóstoles la autoridad para perdonar pecados. Dios dice: Doy mi poder para perdonar los pecados a estos apóstoles. Así es como quiero perdonar tus pecados. ¿Y cuál es nuestra respuesta ante esto? Demasiadas veces respondemos buscando una forma más sencilla. Dios, tu forma es demasiado difícil, mejor hagámosla a mi manera. Vamos a eliminar al intermediario y ir directamente a ti. El único problema es que cuando eliminamos al intermediario, eliminamos el plan de Jesús de la ecuación.

Nuestro Señor le dijo a la hermana Faustina: “No quiero castigar a la humanidad, pero deseo sanarla, presionándola contra mi Corazón Misericordioso.” Nuestro Señor habló muchas veces con la hermana Faustina, instándola a que le contara a los demás su misericordia y sobre esta gran fiesta que celebramos hoy. Prometió que el alma que vaya a confesarse y reciba la Santa Comunión en esta gran fiesta obtendría el perdón completo de los pecados y el castigo.

El béisbol es uno de mis deportes favoritos. Tiene una buena estructura, reglas justas, y cuanto más fuerte golpeas la bola, menos tienes que correr. Lo que hace que el béisbol sea tan divertido son las reglas. Si alguien rompiera las reglas mientras jugaba, el juego dejaría de ser divertido. Eso solía pasar cuando jugaba con mis amigos. A veces a alguien no le gustaba cómo iba el juego y cambiaba el juego para poder sumar más puntos. Bueno, eso nos hizo no querer jugar más. Por eso las reglas de la Iglesia son tan importantes. No es que no fuera justo que alguien no siguiera las normas, sino que sería ineficaz.

No podemos inventar una nueva regla y obligar a Dios a permitirla. El corazón de nuestra salvación proviene de la fe en Cristo y de la obediencia a su voluntad. Quiero que cada persona aquí en esta Iglesia entre por las puertas del cielo. Y si el miedo te impide confesar, lucha contra él. Si la vergüenza te frena, escucha a Cristo. Si no puedes venir a confesarte conmigo, llamaré y concertaré una cita con otro sacerdote. Este es el tiempo de misericordia. No pospongamos más la voluntad de Dios, sino que volvamos a Él para que podamos ser salvos.
