Jesus Christ the King of the Universe 11-23-25

English

From the Cross, Jesus reigns as king, and from the Cross, the world rejects him. Every problem, every conflict that exists in this world is a result of us not accepting Jesus as our King. The first example of this rejection of Jesus came from the thief on the cross beside him. If you are truly the king, save yourself and us. Kings are supposed to be powerful. Kings don’t hang helpless on a Cross while other people make fun of them. There is no way that you are a king.

Generally speaking, people understand what it means to live under the rule of a king. It means that you must the laws made by the king and live in a certain way. It goes against the idea that we are free to choose what we want to do or how we want to live. There have been a series of “No Kings” Rallies across the nation protesting the presidency of Donald Trump. From the official website it says that “America has no kings, and the power belongs to the people.” I am not going to speak about those rallies. Rather, I will speak about my king.

My king reigns from a Cross. He doesn’t look like a king, and he doesn’t force me to follow him. He doesn’t make me live in a certain way, as if I were a slave. But is he truly my king? Or in other words, am I living as a member of his kingdom? We are privileged to be members of Christ’s church. There are other religions that exist which were set up in place of his church based on feelings of the heart. And some go so far as to proclaim that their religion is to live as you wish and neglect the commandments of God. Where do we stand?

When Jesus spoke to Pilate before his crucifixion he said, “my kingdom is not of this world.” It does not conform to the ideas that this world has for a king. And so, this world, in fear and jealousy, declared, “we have no king but Caesar.” There is no room for another king. We are free to live as we want in our current kingdom. There is no room for another king.

Have I given this day to Jesus? I have had days where the whole thing was completely planned before the day started. I would work on my homily, I would go to the gym, I would spend time reading and praying. And as soon as the day began, suddenly I had no time for any of the things I had planned. I had unexpected calls. Meetings that lasted longer than expected. And by the end of the day, I did not do any of the things I had planned to do. The big question though is, did I give my day to Jesus? Did I rule over my day as king, or did I allow Him to rule?

My king reigns from a Cross. And I am right beside him on my own Cross. Will I acknowledge him as my king?

¿He dado este día a Jesús?
