Every time I drive to San Angelo, I have to drive south of Highway 70. And every time, for almost a whole year now, I have to stop and wait at the light where they are rebuilding the bridge. Each time I think, I am gonna make it without a stop. Or they will have it finished. And each time I drive by, the work is still in progress. It is easy to get wrapped up in getting to the next place. Or even getting the project done. Let’s get this bridge done so traffic can flow uninterruptedly. But when we get wrapped up in completing the project, we lose sight of the present moment.

The celebration today of the Most Holy Trinity is an invitation to stop trying to get somewhere, and start being right here with God. In the history of humanity, many different cultures and races have tried to imagine what God might be like or look like. They worshiped plants, animals, stars, and even imaginary things. And God was not in any of those things. God finally revealed himself to us not only in Jesus Christ, but more specifically in the Trinity.

The Trinity is essentially we worship 1 God in 3 divine persons. And the heart of what the Trinity reveals to us is that God exists in relationship with himself, and desires that we may enter into that relationship with Him. When God revealed himself to Moses he came down in a cloud, which we see as an image of the Holy Spirit. He proclaimed his name, which we see as a foreshadowing of Jesus, the Word of God. And He described who he is to Moses. The Lord, the Lord, a merciful and gracious God, slow to anger and rich in kindness and fidelity.

We can see the Trinity in this image, but we can’t stop there! Moses asks for pardon and prays a prayer which is the will of God. Receive us as your own. Think about that. Receive us as your own. Let us enter into the relationship you have in yourself. Let us be loved as you Father love the Son. Let us love as the Son loves the Father. Let us be with you.

When I drive toward San Angelo and get to that bridge, there is a pretty good chance I will have to stop and wait. And that is what God is asking of us today. Stop for a moment in your busy lives. Wait here with me. Enter into my love that I long to fill you with. God has revealed who he is – a Trinity, a relationship of Love. And he is inviting us into that love. Stay awhile after Mass. Take a moment at home. Slow down so that we don’t miss out on the Love God has for us.

Cada vez que conduzco a San Angelo, tengo que conducir al sur de la autopista 70. Y cada vez, desde hace casi un año entero, tengo que parar y esperar en el semáforo donde están reconstruyendo el puente. Cada vez pienso, voy a lograrlo sin parar. O lo tendrán terminado. Y cada vez que paso en coche, el trabajo sigue en curso. Es fácil dejarse llevar por llegar al siguiente lugar. O incluso terminar el proyecto. Vamos a terminar este puente para que el tráfico fluya sin interrupciones. Pero cuando nos obsesionamos con la finalización del proyecto, perdemos de vista el momento presente.

La celebración hoy de la Santísima Trinidad es una invitación a dejar de intentar llegar a algún sitio y empezar a estar aquí mismo con Dios. En la historia de la humanidad, muchas culturas y razas diferentes han intentado imaginar cómo podría ser o cómo podría ser Dios. Adoraban plantas, animales, estrellas e incluso cosas imaginarias. Y Dios no estaba en ninguna de esas cosas. Dios finalmente se reveló a nosotros no solo en Jesucristo, sino más concretamente en la Trinidad.

La Trinidad es esencialmente que adoramos a un Dios entre 3 personas divinas. Y el corazón de lo que la Trinidad nos revela es que Dios existe en relación consigo mismo y desea que podamos entrar en esa relación con Él. Cuando Dios se reveló a Moisés, bajó en una nube, que vemos como una imagen del Espíritu Santo. Proclamó su nombre, que vemos como un presagio de Jesús, la Palabra de Dios. Y le describió quién es a Moisés. El Señor, el Señor, un Dios misericordioso y misericordioso, lento para enfadarse y rico en bondad y fidelidad.

Podemos ver la Trinidad en esta imagen, ¡pero no podemos detenernos ahí! Moisés pide perdón y reza una oración que es la voluntad de Dios. Recíbenos como propios. Piénsalo. Recíbenos como propios. Entremos en la relación que tienes en ti mismo. Que seamos amados como tú, Padre, amas al Hijo. Amemos como el Hijo ama al Padre. Déjanos estar contigo.

Cuando conduzca hacia San Angelo y llegue a ese puente, hay bastantes posibilidades de que tenga que parar y esperar. Y eso es lo que Dios nos está pidiendo hoy. Haz una pausa en vuestras vidas ajetreadas. Espera aquí conmigo. Entra en mi amor que anhelo llenarte. Dios ha revelado quién es: una Trinidad, una relación de Amor. Y nos está invitando a ese amor. Quédate un rato después de la misa. Tómate un momento en casa. Reduce el ritmo para no perdernos el Amor que Dios tiene por nosotros.
